Morrisons is among the finalists at the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards, with this year's winners being announced at an event in Central London on Wednesday, 4th November.

It has been shortlisted for initiatives encompassing several major technological upgrades to enhance its shopping experience. Firstly, it is trialling AI powered Caper Carts from Instacart for an autonomous checkout process.

Secondly, it deployed digital Bluetooth probing across its Oven Fresh departments to automate food safety checks. The UK grocery retailer rolled out a Pick to Light system using digital shelf edge labels to guide online pickers.

Finally, its Everseen roll-out has supported front end efficiency and made improvements into loss recovery. Together, these innovations are driving efficiency, boosting performance, and transforming retail operations.

For the Caper Carts project, Morrisons built a bespoke, interim integration bridge to align the technology with legacy systems before its new Emerald PoS roll-out. Similarly, its Everseen roll-out created an integration between numerous technology systems before a full operational reset and training process to support.

For the digital Bluetooth probing initiative, all 475 Oven Fresh counters transitioned to continuous temperature monitoring and instant alarm triggers; allowing Morrisons to improve merchandising guidelines. Pick to Light was rolled out to 200 stores and this is continuing, creating an increase in UPH supported by deploying regional specialists to demonstrate execution standards.
